The Next Picasso

There is something really spectacular about artwork by children… especially my children! My 9 year old drew this. I just love it. I think they are working on a Picasso-style drawing in art class, but I think he has been influenced a little by my collages. Did you notice the line down the middle? I asked him about it, and he told me that he is a wonderful artiste! I agree!

Artsy Stuff for Summer with the Kids

Giant Bubble

Bubble Boy by Claudine Intner

What is an artsy mom to do? It is only June, and they are climbing the walls. How many weeks until school starts?

I have been combing the web for ideas to keep them busy. I have an especially tough time because I have all boys… No girlie pink bracelets here! So I thought I would share with you some great web sites with kid friendly crafts.

Oooh! It looks like I found our next project! I just saw this really cool post on painting with ice cubes over on Craftzine.com.

So what are your kids doing this summer? Feel free to share your favorite kids craft or web site in the comments!

Art That Flies

Have you ever thought of paper airplanes as art? I do now! As an artist who is a mother to three boys, I am always looking for cool projects that we can all enjoy.  We discovered a really great book called Build Your Own Paper Air Force.

The book provides directions to a huge collection of paper airplanes and includes a CD that you can print templates from. I especially like that the different planes have written directions and step-by-step pictures. Printouts from the CD have fold lines which proved to be very helpful, too.

We made the airplanes more creative by decorating with crayons and colored pencils as well as using different colored papers. It was a lot of fun!

This idea is perfect for a rainy day!
