Remembering Today

Peace Dove collage on canvas board with peace in many languages 8.5 x 11 inches 2004

Peace Dove by Claudine Intner

It is time to pause and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. It is also time to honor the many uniformed men and women who protect and serve us every day. A big thank you to all of the police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and military personnel!

If you have a chance today, you can honor the day by participating in the Remember September Mail Art Memorial Project. The above piece was created as a memorial on the first anniversary of September 11th. I used an image of my grandfather who had died shortly before the attacks. This piece was published in Somerset Studio along with a story about the Remember September Project.

To participate in Remember September, decorate any size envelope and send it to Remember September, PO Box 793, Katonah, NY 10536. Visit the project’s web site for more information.

Decisions, Decisions

Work in Progress by Claudine Intner

Work in Progress by Claudine Intner

Time for a major decision! This large collage has been haunting me for almost a year now. It is 24 x 48 inches. I am in the final stretch with it, but now I realize it needs a frame! I had not planned a frame and the piece is on a gallery wrap canvas. Ugh! (For non-artists, that is a canvas with an extra deep stretcher bar that is usually presented without a frame.  I frequently use gallery wrap canvases or create collage frames that match the piece.

This piece, After the Storm, was created on a panel and framed with a collage frame that I created to match it. I am thinking that a collaged frame would just be too much for the large sailboat collage. So now I am thinking about making a rustic looking frame.

Sailboats

This is a rough idea of what a thin wood frame would look like.

Sailboats

Hmm. Maybe a little thicker piece of wood? I think I will give it a driftwood look with stain. What do you think?
