What’s Playing on the Mom Bus

The Pier at Sunset

The Pier at Sunset by Claudine Intner

Oh, summer! I thought for sure that the Mom Bus would get a break, but the three boys are at two different camps. So I am doing a LOT of driving around. I was going to track down some audio books, and then my husband mentioned podcasts. Even though I have done the whole ipod thing for a while, I never really listened to podcasts. I am very excited that I found a few good ones, and I wanted to pass them along to you!

  • Craftcast - Most of you have probably heard this one before. Alison Lee is the fabulous host who shares lots of fun bits of info. Each episode includes an interview with an artist, crafter, or some other person of interest. I particularly liked this week’s interview with Doug Fisher, president of Mission Control. He is an organizational guru. The key thought from him was that you will never get everything on your to do list done! Seriously think about it! It is actually a freeing thought.
  • CraftyPod – I found this by searching through the iTunes store. When I popped over to the CraftyPod web site to grab the link, I discovered that Diane Gilleland does videos, too. Ooh. Aah. I enjoyed the latest podcast,  Why Your Story is Everything, with Tara Gentile. Tara highlighted the importance of telling a story about your work not just the facts of the piece. It got my gears turning!
  • Art Marketing Action Podcast – I love Alyson Stanfield! She has a wealth of professional advice for artists. I learned a lot in her blogging class and will be taking her upcoming Get Organized class. Her podcasts are packed with useful information.

If you are new to podcasts, don’t despair! You don’t need an ipod to listen to them. Just pop on over to the web sites of these podcasts and you can listen on your computer!

And if you are already listening to podcasts, send me info on your favorites! I will be sure to share any other good ones I find.

See you later! It’s time for another Mom Bus run!

Blog Hop

This fun blog hop has been in my sidebar for a few weeks. It keeps growing and growing and has outgrown my little sidebar so I am moving it to a blog post. Be sure to checkout all of the blogs. I have been having a lot of fun hopping around!

Oh, Spray Paint!

Spray Paint Love

I have a confession. I am borderline obsessed with Fabric Spray Paint by Tulip. Seriously. I love the effect it creates on paper! I first learned about it in Traci Bautista’s class at Art and Soul. Let me show you how to stencil with spray paint…

Spray Paint Love

First select your stencils and lay them down on paper of your choice. The paper can be white, color, patterned, or already embellished by you.

Start spraying! Play with how heavy you want the coverage to be.

That’s it! Remove stencils and let dry. Yes, it really is that easy to create some great papers!

Here are some of my creations…

Spray Paint Love

Oh, another great tip… lay a second piece of paper on top of the wet paper and stencils and create a monoprint from the excess paint.

Spray Paint Love

You can layer stencils. Spray then let dry and then spray stencil something else on top of that.

You will find this is so much fun to do that you start eying objects that could be stencils.
This raffia created a great effect. I did a couple of rounds of spraying on this paper.

Spray Paint Love

I ran outside to grab some twigs and was distracted by the evergreens. Great effect!

Plastic spoons and forks…

Spray Paint Love

Hee, hee!

Spray Paint Love

Yep. My hand. Time to take the spray paint away.

That’s all for now! I have to go run out and buy more spray paint… Hmm. What color should I get?

Artsy Stuff for Summer with the Kids

Giant Bubble

Bubble Boy by Claudine Intner

What is an artsy mom to do? It is only June, and they are climbing the walls. How many weeks until school starts?

I have been combing the web for ideas to keep them busy. I have an especially tough time because I have all boys… No girlie pink bracelets here! So I thought I would share with you some great web sites with kid friendly crafts.

Oooh! It looks like I found our next project! I just saw this really cool post on painting with ice cubes over on Craftzine.com.

So what are your kids doing this summer? Feel free to share your favorite kids craft or web site in the comments!
