Art and Autism… Autism and Art

Putting the Pieces Together by Claudine Intner

Many of you reading this know that I have a child with autism. A few years ago I started a project called Art Now for Autism, an online exhibit and fundraiser for autism research and awareness. This year I am taking a break from the main exhibit but don’t despair! Lynn Krawczyk has chosen Art Now for Autism has the beneficiary of this year’s Breaking Traditions Art Quilt Exhibit. YEAH!

Breaking Traditions | In My Words

Artists are asked to create 12 x 12 inch art quilts centered around the theme of autism. The quilts will be displayed at The American Sewing Expo in Novi, Michigan as well as several other venues. $10 from each entry fee will go towards Art Now for Autism’s fundraising efforts for Autism Speaks, a national autism awareness and research organization. So if you love to quilt, please pop on over to the Breaking Traditions web site for all the details. Entries are due Saturday, August 21, 2010.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Comment Link Love

Mother of Three

Mother of Three Boys by Claudine Intner

In a recent blogging class with Alyson Stanfield and Cynthia Morris, I learned the importance of “link love” in blogging. You want to spread the love and link to other bloggers and web sites.

So I was really excited to discover a neat comment tool on Deb Trotter’s blog called Comment Luv. When people comment on her posts, a little link appears showing the title and link to the commenter’s most recent blog post. I love that!

You can find out all about Comment Luv on their web site. They have a plugin for WordPress and Blogger, and I just saw where they have a Twitter plugin, too.

Do you want to see how it works? Leave me a comment and be sure to click on the Comment Luv check box.

Working with Butterflies

Butterfly Book

I have started working on my butterfly altered book that I recently posted about. I am taking the suggestions of a number of artists and web sites and trying not to work too wet in the book. I have gone through and strategically removed pages through out the book.

Then I used glue stick to adhere pages together. I was skeptical of the glue stick but it appears to be holding well. The nice thing is that it has not caused any warping that I know gel medium would cause.

Now I am starting to create first layers of color for the butterflies. Stay tuned as the butterfly book transforms!

And now I recommend you go check out The Artistic Biker on YouTube!

Green Stripes

Green Stripes by Claudine Intner

Don’t you just love spring? I especially love spring green! I looked out my backdoor on Sunday and saw these beautiful stripes on my lawn. I just love them!

With school winding down, I am preparing for the chaos that is summer at our house by trying to cram lots of art time in to whatever precious minutes I can find. Today I wandered over to Maryland Hall to see what they have in their galleries. I was delighted to see the work of Ron Markman, whose brightly colored cartoon imagery made me think of the American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore. I found it interesting that unlike the outsider artists of AVAM, Markman has a MFA in fine art. The work exhibited at Maryland Hall focused on his imaginary country called Mufka and included a large sculpture piece called Mufka Update which you can see on his web site. In the Martino Gallery, Erika Walsh is exhibiting a collection of watercolors which I particularly enjoyed because they were abstract. YEAH! Both exhibits are on view until June 20, 2010.
